Finnish exports of rough-sawn and planed softwood lumber in May 2014 were 9% higher than in the same month of last year at 708,000 m3. Data from the Finnish Forest Industries Federation (FFIF) shows that deliveries to European countries increased 11%, more sharply than the total exports, to 305,000 m3; this raised their share of the total to 43%. Exports to Germany showed considerable growth of 33% to 61,000 m3. Rising deliveries were also registered to the Netherlands at 14% to 24,000 m3. 404,000 m3 were exported to countries outside Europe, equating to growth of 6% against last year; their share of the total fell to 57%. Exports to Egypt rose by 31% to 118,000 m3. Deliveries to Algeria were 54% higher than the figure for the same period of 2013 at 43,000 m3. Exports to Japan were reduced by 39% to 68,000 m3. A reduction of 19% was registered in deliveries to China to 34,000 m3. Over the first five months of this year, Finnish exports of softwood lumber rose 9% above the figure for the same period of last year to 3.233m m3.
